Ongoing Protest By Students Of UNIPORT Over Hike In School Fees
Thousands of aggrieved students of UNIPORT protested over the high cost of tuition fees. The students shutdown all academic activities in the University of Port Harcourt. All entry and exit points in the institution have been placed under lock and key, leaving the management staff and students stranded. The protest was said to have started around 5a.m, Monday morning. The students are led by the leadership of the student union and have barricaded all access roads leading to the institution, including the major East-West road and the Choba-Uniport road.
The students are protesting against the hike in school fees and other levies. They carry placards with various inscriptions like Lale must go etc.
According to them, the school authorities are insensitive to their plight and vowed to intensify their protests until the management of the school responds to their demands.
It’s was also reported that one student has been shot dead by a policeman in a bid to disperse the protesting students. See pictures below…
